Like Mother, Like Daughter…

Over the years, Carlyne and her mom, Tracie have talked about opening their own vintage shop. That time has finally come…

THEIR STORY began with an alluring little antique store tucked away in Portsmouth, VA. Alden Antiques was established in 1999 by Tracie’s mom and Carlyne’s grandmother, Yvonne.

From day one, Yvonne’s appreciation for antiques was passed on to her family.  Yvonne and Tracie, with little Carlyne and her older sisters in tow, spent countless days treasure-hunting auctions, estate sales and thrift stores doing what they loved. Tracie’s admiration for vintage didn’t stop there.

Upon retiring from her day job in marketing, Tracie’s entrepreneurial journey took flight when she established her own design and staging business. TMT Design would become known for the unique ways antiques and pre-loved “treasures” were showcased in her client’s homes.

Carlyne, too, shared a passion for design and vintage. Following in her mom’s footsteps, Carlyne attended business school at VA Tech. Upon graduating, she put her marketing degree to good use, working in the retail and e-commerce industries. She has since become adept in digital media with a deep understanding of the latest style trends. Carlyne is now leaping at the chance to spread the word about mindful shopping and encourages others to make more sustainable purchases.

Today, Tracie and Carlyne put their visionary minds together to launch Millie Vintage. With Tracie’s industry experience, Carlyne’s digital expertise, and a few tips passed down from the chic and talented women in the family, Millie Vintage shines a spotlight on giving new life to old things.

And the name Millie —- a cheery nod to a fourth-generation treasure seeker, their spunky granddaughter/niece, the marvelous and modern MILLIE.

I think there is beauty in everything. What ‘normal’ people perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it.
